The investigation of health effects of recycled waste tires A Systematic review

Abstract

 Based on the systematic search, 1991 relevant articles were identified from three major international databases, and after removing duplicate records, 1275 articles were selected for evaluation. After evaluating the abstracts, 1139 records were removed, and 136 full-text articles were selected for final evaluation. Also, 56 articles were excluded due to insufficient data and failure to meet the inclusion criteria. Finally, 80 studies were examined in this research. According to the findings of this systematic review, the most relevant compounds associated with the use of used tires in the environment are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), metals, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which have entered various environments (soil, leachate, air, and groundwater) and caused environmental problems. The direct contact with tires and the release of metals, phthalates, and VOCs (mostly through evaporation and leakage) can cause health problems for humans.
Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that despite the fact that tire recycling reduces many environmental problems, due to the lack of comprehensive studies on tire recycling and its associated risks to human health and the environment, it seems necessary to conduct a comprehensive study to examine the health effects of using recycled tires and provide useful information for researchers on the use of products resulting from tire recycling
